-Illustration / Gift Wrap Design
Whilst enjoying a whiskey with friend and fellow designer Sayaka Sugimura, the subject of sending Christmas gifts home came up. Unable to find any wrapping paper that was both a souvenir of where we lived for our families and an authentic reflection of our personalities, we decided to make our own.
We knew there needed to be food, to represent our new experience of Christmas as legit New Yorkers and it needed to have personality. . .it needed to dance! After all Christmas is one of the very rare times it is acceptable to drink too much and display your heinous dance moves for all the family to enjoy. Combine this with things we are commonly known to say “YIEW” & “Motherfucker”, throw in a Christmas and a Brooklyn and BAM you pretty much have the recipe for awesome.
While Saya used brush pens to develop the type, I drew the illustrations using only a black pen, and together we created this series of screen-printed wrapping paper sheets and matching Christmas cards.
